ACT ON THE REGISTRATION SYSTEM FOR ALTERNATIVE THERAPISTS – RAB
On June 1, 2004, the Act on an Industry-Administered Registration System for Alternative Practitioners entered into force. The Act allows alternative practitioners who meet specific requirements to use the title RRegistered Alternative Tretailer – RAB.
THE BOARD FOR PATIENT SAFETY: MINIMUM TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Healthcare training that includes both theory and practice, totaling at least 660 instructional hours or lessons (each lasting at least 45 minutes), consisting of:
- The program must include both theory and practice.
- The program must include at least 250 instructional hours or lessons in the primary subject area (treatment modality).
- In addition, the program must include basic health legislation, clinical guidance/client treatment, psychology, and an introduction to other alternative fields of study.
- There must be final exams, including in the core subjects of anatomy/physiology and pathology. The trade association must set requirements for these exams to ensure that the applicant has the necessary professional insight and understanding. If necessary, the association may administer the exams itself.
- The association must ensure that the applicant’s education is current, well-maintained, and updated to the extent necessary.
Educational Requirements and Course Load for Students
There may be some variations in how different organizations interpret the requirements. We assume that our students must meet the following requirements:
- Anatomy/Physiology 200 hours
- Pathology, 100 hours
- 50 hours of Psychology
- 50 hours Other forms of treatment
- 10 hours of clinic operations
- 12-Hour First Aid Course
E-learning
E-learning can account for up to 100% of theoretical courses, but no more than 33% of instruction in the primary treatment modality, according to the rules of several associations. Contact your association for specific guidelines.
If you comply with the above rules and are registered with an approved association, you may use the title Registered Alternative Practitioner (RAB). You can read more about the benefits of RAB here
MERIT
If you are already licensed in the healthcare field, you will generally receive credit for all of the above, except for “Other Forms of Treatment.” You should also be aware that your first aid certification must not be more than 2 years old.
